A Journey In The World Of Artists.....Bhaswati Haldar talks about her experiences and love for crafting with Sufia Khatoon

In A Journey In The World Of Artists.....Bhaswati Haldar talks about her experiences and love for crafting with Sufia Khatoon before Art Fair exhibition big week

“I was once a pretty butterfly,
In the spring I fly wild,
Soon an artist laid eyes on me,

And I lived for an eternity in his eyes”
-S.K

Tell us something about your self, your school days and how art happened to you?

Tell us something about quilling? how fond are you about this art?

When I was young I used to paint, it was my stress-buster! Then as I grew up, I started to experiment with different art and craft forms. Then i found about quilling in internet. As i more searched about this artform the more i got facinated! And as i started to quill, i understood that this is it, this was the kind of satisfaction i was searching for so long..

This is your second time in Art Fair? How expectant are you about the whole thing? Share some of your memories of art fair 2 with us?

Art Fair is a stage where people can find different art forms under one room. My previous experience of artfair 3 was very pleasant. I met many wonderful artists and saw some really amazing art and craft. I'm looking forward for artfair 4 and I am expecting more wonderful experience.

What are you quilling now? what you like to do most?

I recently found about paper quilling jewelry which are really elegant and beautiful. I'm trying more designs and more patterns for the jewelry!

Have you been following any artist?

I follow and take inspirations from many artist but I am fascinated about quilling artist Yulia and keep my self updated about her works. Her works are very clean and innovative. I also love the works of Manuk and Neli, another quillers.

I love Sufia's work.....

" Sufia, her name suggests her personality, she is a person with a clean and pure heart who is ready to help anytime. She is the person who gave my art works a stage to showcase. A person with so many talents which u can't count. a person who is sweet as sugar- all this describes sufia"

What is art for you? What are your likes and dislikes?

Art is just like oxygen in my life. I feel very incomplete if I am not making something new. I am trying to improve my works and the more I work the more complete i feel. I just love the way art effecting our lives in a positive way..

What are your future plans?

To be honest, I want to dedicate my whole career to quilling. I want to show people that paper can work wonders. Paper quilling game my life a new turn, a new sphere. I want to inspire people about quilling, about the masterpiece that paper can create.

What is about crafts that you like?

Craft can change your life. Every time you start working on something, Every time you create something different, something beautiful. Our life is a canvas and craft is the color. Craft adds color in a dull life. It needs a lot of concentration so working on a project also creates effects of meditation.

Keep expressing, keep loving Art......
And support artists....

The Journey of Artists.....Featuring Art Fair 4 Young Talents.....Simran Mishra

The Journey of Artists of Art Fair.......a rendezvous of art, in conversation with the talented Simran Mishra with Sufia Khatoon

The Blending Dusk

“When the Sun rose

Twilight ignited the horizon,

The lover birds awaken to the morning’s glory,

Dancing to the melody in a rhythmic trance,

And sang songs of Nature’s beauty and hue,

Blending dusk with the colours of love.”

-S.k

"I met Sufia di during one of art sessions, It is really a thrill knowing such a multi talented person. I really look up to Sufia di as she has always helped me and been polite. Her humble and caress behavior is rare and I am glad to learn from her."-Simran Mishra

Tell us something about your self, your school days and how art happened to you?

My name is Simran Mishra and I am a class 12 passout. Art came to when I was a kid, my father being good at sketching and art used to do my school work for art and craft. I remember getting fascinated by how he used to do it, coming up with new ideas and always making my work the best. I used to make drawings with my cousins in free time because (thank god) there were no cell phones in my time. My elder sister-cousin was the best at art in our family and while she was showing one of her works to the family members.. I wondered to myself, "If she can do it. Why can't I?" thus, my quest of becoming a better artist started. I used to take up the job of doing decorations in my class and other sorts of things that included art. As they say 'practice makes perfect', I started being recognized throughout the school for my skills even though I was raw. I have never learnt drawing by a teacher until the end of 2014 when I decided to join Birla Academy for Art and Culture as it had been almost 2 years since I had drawn something. The time I spent at the academy was a blessing because every time I went there for a class, I found peace within myself, art gives me peace.

This is your first time in Art Fair? How expectant are you about the whole thing?

Yes, this is my first time at Art Fair, infact it is my first exhibition. As it is my first exhibition I am not very expectant. I am only trying to buy more experience and enjoy my time here.

What are you painting now? What subjects to like to work on?

I am focusing more on water colouring and acrylic as I don't want to take much risk though I am trying out mixed media and other forms which I have been picking up from the internet.

Have you been following any artist?

As I earlier said that I am new to the exhibition field, I don't really know many artists. My sole tutor right now is the internet.

What is art for you? What are your likes and dislikes?

As anyone would say, painting is a dying field, you can either be a hit or the biggest flop. Many painters try to hang themselves in the middle of these two to be on the safer side. I just want to tell each and every painter to be proud of themselves because not everyone out there has a vision, but you

Your message for your artist friends in Art fair 4

For me, Art is a pathway from your soul to the outside world, it is a way of obtaining inner peace. As I have observed, people like to buy abstract paintings more than the others. Even though abstract is the most popular form of art I don't really like it as it seems to me as blank as the mind of the painter. For me, a painting is not complete unless it has a figure. I really like realistic paintings, paintings that make me wonder if they are photographs or paintings are my favorite as it shows the true talent these painters possess, the amount of effort they put forward in achieving perfection.
Painters and Writers, as I always say, are God's own creation. They are the eye of the society. There vision is an event and there existence, divine.

In Journey with Art Fair artist, Rahul Mall....a passionate poet and art lover.....

Art Fair 4 presents a heart to heart with Rahul Mall, one of our dearest artists who is a talented poet and an art lover......In Journey In the Artist's World

"Share your story of pain or glory,
Or a dream from last night.
When it's my turn, I shall remain quite,
Disappointed are you? Patience. I got a different style
Ready my armour; spatula, brush and a paper,
And a story I shall derive
For emotions I have not to disgrace,
With words inappropriate to bring it to life."

-Rahul Mall

What defines the artists is not really known to us?

But its magic, something beyond understanding, a vibration, a passion, a cosmic pull that binds us to our creative side, to nature, to higher calling to express in the canvas of our hearts.
I was lost for a while, till the colours touched my soul's vibes, a rhyme thus created in a frenzy fashion,

I was forced to create, this is what I call art....As the curator of this exhibition whenever I look at new talented artists artworks I am transported to their world...same can be said for Rahul...he is talented and his vision unique.

He says...
“If you want to know the Rahul who will be able to make you laugh at anytime of the day then just talk to me, but if you want to know the real me, the part that I can’t express through words, the more serious mature side of me then have a look at my art.”
“If you want to know the Rahul who will be able to make you laugh at anytime of the day then just talk to me, but if you want to know the real me, the part that I can’t express through words, the more serious mature side of me then have a look at my art”
"Looking forward to witness a wide range of genres and mediums. I am also expecting this to be a real learning venture for everyone participating considering the workshops that are scheduled across the 5 days.
This would also provide a platform to the novice artists to interact and exchange ideas."

Tell us something about your self, your school days and how art happened to you?

I am a curious person, exploring opportunities and wanting to make most out of it. Anything 'out of the box' really appeals to me. Since school days I have been known as a poet but 11th and 12th I was more of an artist. It is then when I realized that I had the talent and it just evolved every other day then onwards.

This is your second time in Art Fair? How expectant are you about the whole thing? Share some of your memories of art fair 1 with us?

Yes, this is indeed my second time in art fair. Art fair 2 was an amazing experience. It has inspired me in ways more than one. It had introduced me to quite a number of beautiful and creative people with some of whom my friendship has come a long way.
I am very much expectant about this one... I expect a lot of people to drop by... Family, friends, relatives, and strangers too. I expect both appreciation and criticism too; the only way an artist can grow and evolve. Also I expect this fest to be another memorable event for me.

(Rahul Mall..whose painting..Lost Love was appreciated by all in Art fair 2 and bought by an art admirer shares his thoughts on the overall experience of art fair he says "we all love being appreciated... Don't we ? But in our art world, when we have an interested buyer to whom the ownership title of our painting is being transferred; that's the epitome of appreciation for us. And yes, it feels amazing!I am an optimist as a person. To the last minute possible I will try squeezing out the positive part of the moment. I did want something as such to happen but this being my first exhibition my main focus was on gaining experience of an exhibition.)

What are you painting now? What subjects to like to work on?

Well, at present I am working on a concept regarding opportunities and urban life and how time is the master of all.
I usually like to work on symbolic stuff. Stuff with which everyone can relate an event from their life. Religion and humanity is something that appeals to me a lot though and I look forward to make more works on how we can get everyone to come under the generous umbrella of humanity.

Have you been following any artist?

No not really.

What is art for you? What are your likes and dislikes?

Art is a medium for me to explore myself. It is a medium of commuting to someone what words cannot express.

 Your message for other artists?

You are all beautiful people. Keep doing what you are good at and forget about your business part. Cage your emotions on your canvas and let the highest bidder get it all the best :)

What are your future plans? you are a poet even...how related art and poetry is to you?

Eventually I will be entering my family business. But I intend to continue poetry and art alongside.

Why Art Fair?

I believe in grabbing onto opportunities. It is my second year in Calcutta and I had been searching for an opportunity; a platform to showcase my works and here I have one. So, do I need any more reasons to cling onto this platform?
to a profession to me nor has it ever existed as a subject for me.

It is something I am just passionate about. It's a relaxing hobby to me. It is a medium through which I communicate with myself and the rest of the world.
The event In my opinion it is a great opportunity for the novice group. I personally believe that such events nurture the flowering buds and make the petals want to open up to the world.

"Sufia is a very inspirational person. She has inspired me to sketch and write a lot. I have worked closely with her on a couple of social projects too so we think quite alike.

Sufia as a curator...Well, u did describe everyone quite well... But I guess someone needs to describe u too... Well, it was and will be great fun working with u. Your hard work, dedication,

perseverance and energy is what has made this event a success and so happening."

"Apke pas kafi k liye labz nahi Hai but mere pas Kuch labz hai apke liye...

It's ur zeal, it's ur ardor,

That makes us look more farther,It's ur energy that reflected off us,

If u r the sun we are stars. Looking forward to art fair iv and more.."

Journey in the Painter's world...Art Fair 4 featuring Niladri Mahajan

Art Fair 4 presents Niladri Mahajan in A journey in the painter's world....

In Niladri's paintings reality filtrates down in a deeper realm of consciousness, a well-balanced proportion between generalness and peculiarity. They represent universe as being organized in geometric forms from which observed irregularities and impurity; boredom and randomness give away to underlying equilibrium, “ the inner spirituality of things” as he says.

Art is to Niladri's  the synthesis of our experience, observation and their meaningful production of aesthetic objects by using skill and creative imagination, an expression of our inner and outer world which we inhabit in living a life- may it be real or transformed. It depicts the uniqueness of an artist’s thought process and their presentations in the terms of lines, form, space, colour, shape, silence and utterance as the spatial constraints.

"Life is a chance to meet the limitless possibilities. We are here to fulfill our meanings, be it immediate or distant. We hope, dream and live for to achieve that state. And it is our journey, the moments of travelling make us happy… whether we reach our destination or not."
-Niladri Mahajan

We are glad to have Niladri as one of our talented artists paving the way. A writer, port and a painter.....the world seems to be listening to the creatives....a heart to heart with the painter.

Have you exhibited your works before?

have not exhibited before and starting it with ART FAIR, so excited a lot; for communicating with the world around me with a new language and new arrays of thought, that has been my childhood passion and the dream across a spread… my paintings – my belongings and existence.

Tell us something about what you do?

I am a counseling psychologist and live in Kolkata. Recently I also did a Masters in Computational Biology. I hold a diploma in Fine Arts and trained in Dhrupad and Western Classical Music. I like to do gliding and scuba diving, have a strong inclination towards photography and cinema; astronomy and artificial intelligence, a team member of Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence (SETI) of University of California, Berkley. Afternoon walks are my favorite and the changing seasons. I write poem both in English and Bengali.
I think Kolkata is a magical city. Being brought up here always make you feel an aura of nothingness and nostalgia; mingling between the ordinary and uncommon, a sharp and hazy delineating boundary of a singular life story that you can found here. Art here is the heartbeat of life. Many prestigious galleries, artists, events and our ADDA are woven in daily life and the transference. You can spend years here without even slightly aware of time, space and your orientations and think it’s just yesterday you are here.

How did Art came to you and became your passion?

I started my drawing when around thirteen years old. I spent my childhood observing and absorbing the colour, form and nuances of Dutch masters like Vermeer, Rembrandt. They are the all-time favorites of mine. Lately but specially Cezanne, Monet, Degas, Theo Van Doesberg, Franz Kline and Rodin.
My works are a synthesis of philosophy of DE STIGL, modernity of OP ART and unique colour gradients of ABSTRACT EXPRESSENISM, rich intrigues of hues as seen in INDIAN KANGRA MINIATURES. These are the very essence of my influence that incite me to draw and paint by creating a filtered reality that can be found in Ragas, in their inherent abstract but meaningful association with our world.

What you like to work on?

Apart from abstract I love a lot portrait, landscape and still life, particularly in watercolour and pencil.

What is creativity to you?

Hmmm… though creativity does not has any watertight compartments; as till now I didn’t blend my poetry with paintings very much, though some epiphenomenal occurrences are there. Somewhere and somehow they are confluent but in paintings I am experimenting with a particular genre that magnifies, represents and obliterates our day to day experiences and humane archetypes.

"I meet Sufia, our Curator, “THE LITTLE ENTERPRENEUR OF ART” at a book launch, since then we are friends. Its only one year and I noticed some exceptional qualities in her as a connoisseur, organizer and artist. She is very down to Earth; always the girl next-door and an intellectual who likes to lend her every effort for the expanded world around her. A balanced working example of left and right hemisphere. And I am really looking forward to Art Fair and excited to met all the other artists.."

If you have loved and cherished art and artists, then we expect you to grace Art Fair from 26th to 30th April'15 in Chemould Art gallery, 12 f parkstreet, park mansion, near giggles.
And enjoy five days with singers, musicians, poetry and art because Art Fair is where art meets appreciators....

A Journey with the Artist's...a Young talented youth learning the wisdom shows signs of deep emotions...Featuring Amit Das at Art Fair 4

Art Fair 4...A Journey with Artists and their imaginary world....featuring Amit Das, our visionary artist

Amit Das, a student of commerce in his third year of study, looks confused most of the time, common in such days when one is yet to know what one wants in life, but when he sits with his brush, he paints, the things that mostly touch his soul, he gives life to them....
When we looked at his water colour works...the first thing we loved was the strokes, the uncanny feelings one had while looking at the ruins....Shy and soft spoken  we could get Amit speak over coffee and art.....

A heart to heart with our enthusiastic artist...........

He loves painting the things that have been left behind still waiting for fruition or the end.....
A subject most which we found quite intriguing....a thought provoking call...

What happens to the home's once build for us...
left behind to mourn our absence forever...
a haunting scene beyond expression...
Ruins, us personified in the end....
To submit to Time and the ground beneath our feet.
